Great photos! Some friends and I shipped our 6 Jeeps from Oakland, California, to Lima and travelled to the tip of South America. To see your photos of Peru is a great reminder of that beautiful region. Our trip consisted of stops in La Paz, Tucuman, Bariloci, Iguazu Falls, Ushuaia and Santiago, Chili, which was the end of our trip. South America has something for all of us. I can't wait to go back.

I am a South America geek and have lived down here about three years now (mostly in Lima) but have travelled all over - mostly here in Peru, but also in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. I'm moving back to the States in a few months but travelling a lot down here before that. Could I help you guys out? I'll be going to Tambopata and the north coast of Peru, and am spending Y2K in the Chilean Andes and then heading into the Chilean Atacama before returning to Lima... Sound interesting?

To start I'd just like to commend you on your excellent website! I think it captures both the vibrancy of that part of the world and your enthusiasm for it. After reading your website the other day I was inspired to have a go at travelling!

In the summer of 1979, I travelled by bus, taxi, plane and train from Medellin, Colombia, to Machu Picchu. It was a wonderful journey, filled with mostly fond memories. The train and then hike up to Machu Picchu is one I won't soon forget. My wife, cousin and I were up early and rode the 'Indian' train so we didn't have to deal with the 'toristas'. The view from the top of the world was great. We took lots of pictures, which I drag out every now and then. I long to go back. By the way your site is great.

I spent the month of July visiting my girlfriend in Buenos Aires, the 'Paris of the Pampas'. All the talk about the Tango, the grass-fed beef (and mouth watering Asado), the goregeous people, and non-stop nightlife are grossly underexagerated! I hope to see a section on your website dedicated to this very important city. I can provide with a few pics of my own, if you need them.

Thank you for loving our country! I'm a Peruvian lawyer. I've been to Cuzco only once and since I just graduated from my MBA I guess the best reward will be to go back. My husband and I will do the Inca Trail (first time for me) and we are very excited!! We will let you know how it was...

Great site - thanks. I'm just planning an adventure to South America and am keen to pick your brains. I'm likely to go to Peru, Bolivia and Chile early next year but I'm not sure how long I will need or how long I can afford. How long did you spend there? Did you go anywhere other than the places on this site? Obviously it depends on what you buy but can you estimate a daily cost for a budget traveller. Is it worth me taking a tent? Just how cold does it get on the Inca Trail. Any advice gratefully received.

My 11 year old daughter and I are off to Santiago and north to Antifagasto from 11-23 November. We live in Toronto, and decided to visist our friends in South America. My daugther's teacher has suggested that we read some books prior to our trip on Family life and children of the Inca. Do you have any suggestions for any good fiction that would be appropriate for her to read?

Great site! An inspiration if nothing else and reason enough to resign from work and head off for a couple of months! A question to either you or anyone reading this, is it safe to travel alone? Anyone interested in getting together or contacting me to perhaps make plans to travel or just meet up, offer advice or trek through Peru - so far it's just me, and I am still in the planning stages of my route. Either way come rain or shine I am heading off April/May 2000 to explore and just enjoy what is there, any takers? If so contact me.

I don't know if you have it already, but one great and down-to-earth book is by a chap called Rupert Attlee, The Trail to Titicaca. He travelled with two mates from the southern tip of the continent, up through Patagonia and the Andes into Peru and Bolivia - all in aid of Leukemia Research and on Mountain Bikes! It has some great stories.

Hi. I checked out your website - it looks phenomenal! Do you guys organise the tours or how do I get in touch with the great powers that do this sorta stuff?
Felicia Meyerowitz
Feliciam@fulcrumbank.co.za

We don't organise trips - we just make this site because we love it. But check out gosouthamerica.about.com for links to some good tour operators. Better still - pack your rucksack, buy a travel guide, and just go!

I am Emily. I'm 15 years old and I live in t he USA. I am doing a geneology project for a high school project and I cam upon this Website looking for my family and I felt the need to leave a message. I'll explain why. I was adopted at the age of 5 months old and I came from South America, Columbia. I know this is not where you took your trip but I was thinking maybe there was a slight chance you could help me. I don't know much but I do know that my father left my mother before I was born and my mother is now at the age of 38. Her name is Faustina Ardilo. My name was Victoria Adilod but my adoptive parents changed my name to Emily please contact me if anyone can help me! Thank you.

Hi! What a great site. It really looks good. Actually, my girlfriend and I are going to Peru, May 2000. So far we've planned to start in La Paz and then go to Titicaca, Cuzco, Machu Picchu... What's next is still a little uncertain, but somehow we're going north. Hopefully we'll make it all the way to Iquitos and then back to Lima. The pictures here at your site just make us want to go right now.

As a novice on the Net I enjoyed visiting your Web page. I traveled from Mexico to Venezuela. I hadn't traveld before, so to find a scorpian in my bag, have a monkey sleep with me and have a man walk up and down a train with guns to protect us made me want to travel more! Next year I'll be traveling through Chile...
